New Delhi: Parliamentary elections are scheduled to be held in Bangladesh on February 12, 2026. This will be the first election since former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina left the country and following the death of Khaleda Zia. From 1991 to 2024, Bangladeshi politics was largely dominated by these two leaders. As a result, after 35 years, the country is set to have a new Prime Minister. Sheikh Hasina’s party, the Awami League, has not been permitted to participate in the elections. According to the Election Commission, this decision was taken due to the party’s alleged role in the violence that occurred during the student movement in 2024.
