Sanaa: A U.S. attack on Iran could trigger a renewed wave of conflict in the Red Sea. Following any strike on Iran, Yemen’s Houthi rebels may begin attacking Israeli and American vessels in the Red Sea in support of Tehran. The Houthis are reportedly intensifying their military preparations for such a scenario.
After Israel’s offensive in Gaza in October 2023, the Houthi rebels had previously targeted Israeli and U.S. ships in the Red Sea in solidarity with the Palestinians. Amid rising tensions between Iran and the United States, similar signals are once again emerging.
According to a report, the Houthis are preparing to launch attacks on shipping in the Red Sea. The report also states that Israeli security forces are operating on the assumption that if the United States strikes Iran first, they could face a response originating from Yemen.
