Under an agreed formula between the Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) and the BJP, the terms of the Mayor and Deputy Mayor will be one and a quarter years each. Accordingly, over a five-year period, the Thane Municipal Corporation will have four Mayors and four Deputy Mayors.
However, throughout the five years, the post of Mayor will remain with the Shiv Sena (Shinde faction), while the post of Deputy Mayor will stay with the BJP. As per the arrangement, Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) leader Sharmila Pimpolkar-Gaikwad will serve as Mayor, while the BJP’s Krishna Patil will assume the role of Deputy Mayor. Both leaders filed their nominations on Friday in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.
