Former Indian Navy Officer Purnendu Tiwari Re-Arrested in Qatar After Release Following Death Sentence

New Delhi. Former Indian Navy officer Commander Purnendu Tiwari, who has been residing in Qatar, has been arrested once again, dealing a major setback to hopes of his return to India. The Ministry of External Affairs has officially confirmed the arrest, stating that he was taken into custody following a decision by a Qatari court in December.

Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal informed the media that Tiwari has been arrested in connection with an old legal case that has been pending in Qatar for a considerable period. In this matter, a few other individuals have also been detained; however, they are not Indian nationals.

The spokesperson clarified that the Indian Embassy in Qatar remains in continuous contact with Commander Tiwari and his family. However, as the case is currently under judicial consideration, it is not possible to offer detailed comments at this stage.
