Voting to Decide Remaining Seats in Haryana and Bihar — BJP May Pull Off a Surprise in Haryana

New Delhi: A total of 26 candidates, including Nationalist Congress Party (SP) chief Sharad Pawar and Union Minister Ramdas Athawale, were elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha on Monday. With the deadline for withdrawal of nominations now over, voting will take place on March 16 for the remaining 11 seats in the Upper House.

Elections are scheduled for five seats in Bihar, four in Odisha, and two in Haryana. In these biennial elections, Bihar’s longest-serving Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and BJP president Nitin Naveen are widely expected to be elected to the Rajya Sabha.

A total of 40 candidates had filed nominations for the 37 seats that fell vacant across 10 states. After the withdrawal of nominations, a close contest is anticipated for one seat each in Bihar, Odisha, and Haryana. Overall, 14 candidates remain in the fray for the remaining 11 seats.
