New Delhi. Light to moderate earthquake tremors were felt in the Union Territory of Ladakh and in neighboring China. The National Center for Seismology (NCS) shared information about both incidents, stating that a 3.7-magnitude earthquake was recorded in Leh, while a 4.4-magnitude quake struck China’s Xinjiang region.
On Sunday, Leh in Ladakh experienced a 3.7-magnitude earthquake on the Richter scale. According to the NCS, the epicenter was located at a depth of 10 kilometers below the earth’s surface. Notably, Leh had also recorded a 3.7-magnitude earthquake earlier on October 21, 2025, in the afternoon, with the epicenter at a depth of 90 kilometers.
In China’s Xinjiang region, stronger tremors were felt early Monday. At 1:26 a.m. on Monday, a 4.4-magnitude earthquake struck the area. This quake originated at a shallow depth of just 10 kilometers. Earthquakes occurring closer to the surface are generally considered more dangerous, as their energy has a greater impact on the ground.
