Guwahati: Team India and South Africa arrived at the Barshapara Cricket Stadium on Saturday for the second Test of the ongoing series. Tight security arrangements were put in place across the stadium premises and both teams were welcomed with formal reception upon arrival.
With India coming off a strong performance in the opening match, excitement among spectators for today’s second Test is notably high. A large turnout of fans was seen at the Barshapara Cricket Stadium as the city geared up for the historic encounter.
Notably, the last time Guwahati hosted a Test-related event was in 1983 during the India–West Indies fixture. After a gap of 42 years, the city is once again hosting a Test match, marking its elevation as the 30th full international cricket venue in the country. Guwahati, which has already hosted international ODIs, T20s and IPL matches, now joins the list of Test centres as well.
Cricket enthusiasts from across Assam and various parts of the Northeast have been arriving in large numbers since yesterday, making the atmosphere electric ahead of the much-awaited clash.
