Dhaka: Following the passing of former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, her son Tarique Rahman has taken charge of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). The party’s Standing Committee has approved his appointment as Chairman.
According to media reports, the decision was taken during a meeting held on Friday night at the party’s Gulshan office. After the meeting, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir confirmed the development. All members of the Standing Committee unanimously elected Tarique Rahman as the party’s Chairman. With the consent of all members, Tarique Rahman formally assumed the position in accordance with the BNP’s constitution.
