How Much Impact Will the Faces of PM Modi and CM Devendra Fadnavis Have?
Mumbai: Voting for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the country’s wealthiest civic body, will take place on January 15, with the results to be announced the very next day. Notably, these elections are being held after nearly a decade. According to indications emerging from a recent survey, Shiv Sena (UBT) appears to be in a strong position. It is also being suggested that women voters could play a decisive role, particularly on issues such as security.
In the survey, respondents were asked how much impact the faces of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis would have on the elections. Among those surveyed, 4 percent women voters, 4 percent Muslim voters, 2 percent Marathi voters, and 4 percent from other categories expressed agreement. Across all four groups, the dominant factor influencing voting decisions was the work carried out by the local councillor.
According to the survey, 12 percent of Muslim voters said they would vote for the party that fields a Muslim candidate. Meanwhile, 2 percent indicated they would support a candidate who is in a position to defeat the BJP. Ten percent expressed support for the Raj–Uddhav Thackeray alliance, while 11 percent favored the Congress-led alliance. A significant 64 percent did not give any response.
By Friday, 68 candidates from the Mahayuti alliance had already been elected unopposed.
