Kathmandu: The emerging trends from Nepal’s parliamentary elections indicate a historic shift in the political landscape of the Himalayan nation. The party led by former Kathmandu mayor Balen Shah, the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), is steadily moving toward a decisive majority, making Shah’s rise to the post of prime minister increasingly certain.
The vote counting following the polling held on 5 March has made it evident that the people of Nepal have overwhelmingly rejected traditional political families and several long-standing political heavyweights, including former prime minister K. P. Sharma Oli. The results point to a strong public mandate for new leadership and a break from the country’s established political order.
