New Delhi. Nearly two months ago, the sudden death of Shankar, the elephant at Delhi Zoo, left everyone shocked. The zoo’s only African elephant breathed his last at the age of just 29. At that time, heart failure was suspected to be the cause of death. However, Shankar’s post-mortem report has now been released, revealing that he suffered from a rare disease caused by a virus.
This is the first recorded case in any zoo across India where an animal’s death has been linked to this particular virus.
