Rain-Drenched Deadlines Threaten Tamil Nadu’s Electoral Roll Revision

Weather Report

Chennai: The massive exercise to verify and revise Tamil Nadu’s 6.41-crore-strong electoral roll, known as the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), is facing a severe setback as heavy rains continue to lash southern and central districts, forcing the Revenue Department to divert crucial staff to flood relief work.

With the deadline for completing the SIR process looming on December 4, government employees—already under intense pressure—are now struggling to meet the targets amidst continuous downpours and strained manpower.

The intense spell of rain is not only hindering the physical distribution of enrolment forms but is also drawing the entire revenue machinery into relief and rehabilitation efforts, according to departmental sources. This diversion is stretching an already struggling workforce tasked with a monumental administrative assignment.
