Prime Minister Narendra Modi has paid tribute to veteran actor Govardhan Asrani, who won hearts across generations with his remarkable comic performances. Expressing his sorrow on social media, the Prime Minister wrote, “A talented entertainer and a truly versatile artist, he brought joy to audiences of all ages. His contribution to Indian cinema will always be remembered. My condolences to his family and admirers.”
Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, also expressed grief over the actor’s demise. He said that Asrani’s passing is a great loss to Indian cinema and that Bollywood has lost a priceless gem. Taking to X, he wrote, “The news of the demise of legendary Indian cinema actor Govardhan Asrani is deeply saddening. His performances brought smiles to people’s faces for decades.”
Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Delhi Commission for Women Chairperson Swati Maliwal, and former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot also paid heartfelt tributes to the late actor. In his message on X, Amit Shah wrote, “The demise of actor Asrani Ji is extremely saddening. Throughout his life, he contributed immensely to Indian cinema and won millions of hearts through his humor. May God grant peace to his soul and strength to his family in this difficult time.”
