Delhi: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla offered floral tributes to Ganesh Vasudev Mavalankar, the inaugural presiding officer of the Lok Sabha, at the Central Hall of the Constitution on Thursday to mark his birth anniversary.Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh, Members of Parliament, former MPs, and Lok Sabha Secretary General Utpal Kumar Singh joined in paying homage during the solemn occasion.
Mavalankar stands recognized as a key architect of India’s parliamentary traditions. He launched his political career in 1937 as a member of the Bombay Legislative Assembly from Ahmedabad.
Subsequently, he served as Chairman of the Sixth Central Legislative Assembly, the Constituent Assembly (Legislative), and the Provisional Parliament after independence. Elected unanimously as the first Lok Sabha Speaker on May 15, 1952, he held the position until his passing in 1956.
