Patna: Following the National Democratic Alliance’s historic victory in the Bihar Assembly elections, the formal process of forming the new government has officially begun. As part of this process, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar submitted his resignation to Governor Arif Mohammed Khan on Monday. Earlier in the day, he chaired the final cabinet meeting of his outgoing government, during which a proposal to dissolve the current Assembly was approved. After meeting the Governor, Nitish Kumar stated that the path for forming the new government is now completely clear.
In the next step toward government formation, a meeting of JD(U) legislators has been convened for Tuesday. The BJP legislative party will also meet on the same day. After the meetings of both parties, an important session of the NDA alliance will be held, in which the leader of the legislative party will be selected. Subsequently, a formal claim to form the government will be presented before the Governor. Since the NDA had already declared Nitish Kumar as its chief ministerial candidate, it is considered certain that he is preparing to take the oath as Chief Minister for the 10th time.
According to information received on Monday, Nitish Kumar is scheduled to take the oath of office on November 20 at Patna’s Gandhi Maidan. Preparations for this large-scale event are being carried out on a war footing. Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi informed that the new cabinet will include a total of 36 ministers—16 from the BJP, 15 from the JD(U), 3 from the LJP (Ram Vilas), and one each from HAM and RLSP.
Reports also confirm that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the swearing-in ceremony. NDA leaders consider the event to be a symbol of the alliance’s unity and electoral success. It is noteworthy that the current government’s tenure ends on November 22, making the formation of the new government mandatory before that date. The Election Commission has already handed over the official list of winning candidates to the Raj Bhavan, and the Model Code of Conduct has been lifted in the state. With this, the process of forming the new government is expected to move forward even more swiftly.
