New Delhi: India will continue to extend its support to the International Solar Alliance (ISA) even after the United States decided to withdraw, a senior official said on Thursday. The International Solar Alliance is among the 66 international organizations from which the United States has chosen to exit.
The senior official stated that the government learned through media reports that the International Solar Alliance is included among the 66 international organizations from which the United States has decided to withdraw. At present, the International Solar Alliance has approximately 125 member countries.
The official said that the ISA remains focused on its core objective of helping member countries collectively address the major shared challenges involved in expanding solar energy in line with their respective needs, with the aim of ensuring universal access to energy. The official further added that the ISA will continue to work with its member countries—particularly least developed countries and small island developing states—on the development and deployment of solar energy, mobilization of finance, capacity building, and reducing risk perceptions.
According to a statement from the White House, President Donald Trump signed an executive order suspending U.S. support for 66 organizations, agencies, and commissions. This step was taken following a review by his administration of participation and funding across all international organizations, including those affiliated with the United Nations.
