New Delhi: Amid the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, the international human rights organization Human Rights Watch has alleged that the Israeli military recently used white phosphorus munitions in a residential area of southern Lebanon. The organization stated that the incident may constitute a violation of international humanitarian law.
According to the report released by Human Rights Watch, artillery shells fired over the town of Yohmor on March 3, 2026, were seen exploding in the air. An analysis of photographs and videos confirmed the presence of white phosphorus in the munitions. After conducting geolocation and verification of the visual evidence, the organization concluded that the shells detonated above residential homes, triggering fires in several houses and vehicles.
