New Delhi: The Indian men’s hockey team will compete under the captaincy of experienced midfielder Hardik Singh in the upcoming FIH Pro League matches scheduled to be held in Hobart, Australia, from February 20 to 25. Regular captain and drag-flick specialist Harmanpreet Singh had earlier withdrawn from the tournament due to personal reasons.
During the tournament, India will face Spain and host nation Australia. Prior to this, the Indian team had suffered defeats in all four of their matches played in Rourkela.
Head coach Craig Fulton acknowledged that the team’s performance in Rourkela was below expectations and the results did not go in their favor. However, he emphasized that the squad has learned valuable lessons and made necessary improvements in their game. Fulton also highlighted that Hardik, who brings experience from two Olympic Games, will be a significant asset to the team in his new leadership role.
