India Ranks 9th Globally in Total Forest Area

International

According to the Global Forest Resources Assessment (GFRA) 2025 released by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), India has now secured the 9th position globally in terms of total forest area, moving up from its previous 10th rank. The country has also retained its 3rd position worldwide in terms of annual forest area growth.

Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Bhupender Yadav credited this achievement to the Modi government’s policies and initiatives focused on forest conservation and development, extensive afforestation efforts undertaken by state governments, and the community-led environmental actions encouraged under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The Minister highlighted the Prime Minister’s call to plant a tree in the name of one’s mother and his emphasis on environmental awareness, which have inspired citizens to actively participate in tree plantation and conservation efforts. This collective participation, Yadav noted, has significantly strengthened the spirit of shared environmental responsibility across the nation.
