Colombo: In a landmark decision, Members of Parliament in Sri Lanka voted by an overwhelming majority on Tuesday to abolish their pension benefits. This bold move comes amid the country’s severe economic crisis and growing public discontent. The decision fulfills a major electoral commitment made by the government led by Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
The proposal received strong backing in the 225-member Sri Lankan Parliament, reflecting broad consensus across party lines in support of the reform.
