Mumbai: Two days after the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) election results were announced, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde met all 29 councillors of his party at the Taj Lands End hotel in Bandra. The councillors had been shifted to the hotel immediately after the declaration of the results.

Shinde stated that the Mayor of Mumbai would be elected from the Mahayuti alliance. After the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Shiv Sena has emerged as the second-largest party. He emphasized that his party is carrying forward the ideology of Balasaheb Thackeray.

The results of elections to 29 municipal corporations across Maharashtra, including the BMC, were declared on January 16. Out of Mumbai’s 227 wards, the BJP won 89 wards, while the Shinde faction secured 29 wards. To reach the majority mark of 114, the BJP requires the support of the 29 councillors from the Shinde group.
