Kathmandu:
The serene eyes of the Boudhanath Stupa once symbolized safety and hope for Tibetan refugees. Today, however, the far more unyielding gaze of thousands of Chinese surveillance cameras installed across the streets and rooftops of Kathmandu has taken their place. With the backing of China’s advanced surveillance technology and the cooperation of the Nepalese government, the country is gradually transforming into what many describe as a “digital prison”—a shift that has had its most profound impact on the Tibetan community.
