Chemicals Detected in 43 Samples of Hair Extensions

Lifestyle-2

New Delhi: Serious concerns have emerged regarding the safety of hair extension products that claim to provide long, thick, and stylish hair. In a recent study conducted in the United States, scientists examined 43 samples of various types of hair extensions. The analysis revealed the presence of approximately 170 different chemicals.

Among these were substances that may be linked to cancer, as well as others known to cause hormonal imbalances and fall under the category of toxic compounds. According to the report, chemicals such as phthalates and organotins were identified in these extensions, both of which can interfere with the body’s endocrine system.

The endocrine system plays a crucial role in regulating growth, reproduction, and several vital bodily functions. Disruption of this system can potentially lead to serious long-term health issues. Most concerningly, some samples were found to contain chemicals that may be associated with an increased risk of breast cancer.
