New Delhi: A large number of Indians continue to be drawn toward foreign countries, with Canada emerging as their most preferred destination. Indians are not only moving abroad for education or employment but also with the aim of obtaining permanent residency.
According to the latest report by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), nearly 225,000 Indians acquired citizenship in OECD member nations in 2023 — the highest figure recorded to date. This marks a new phase in India’s growing global migration trend.
Experts suggest that Indian emigrants are not merely seeking better career prospects and living standards; many are also choosing foreign citizenship for the security of a stable social framework and a promising future. This trend underscores that Indians are not only expanding their presence on the global stage but are also making significant contributions to the economies and workforces of developed nations.
