Dhaka: The results of the recently concluded general elections in Bangladesh have been announced, with the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), led by Tarique Rahman, achieving a historic and sweeping victory. Following this decisive win, Tarique Rahman—son of former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia—is set to become the country’s next Prime Minister.

According to the results declared after Thursday’s polling, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) secured 209 seats, attaining a two-thirds majority in Parliament. While party supporters are celebrating the emphatic mandate, the declining representation of minority communities in the new Parliament has sparked fresh debate across the country.
