Colombo: The Sri Lankan cricket team secured a commanding eight-wicket victory over Australia to qualify for the Super 8 stage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. Opening batter Pathum Nissanka played a pivotal role in the triumph, remaining unbeaten and scoring a magnificent century.
With this defeat, the two-time champions Australia now find themselves on the verge of elimination from the tournament, as their chances of advancing to the Super 8 have been significantly diminished. Earlier in the competition, they had also suffered a setback against Zimbabwe, further compounding their difficulties.
