New Delhi: The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways continues to make consistent efforts to reduce road accidents across the country. To save the lives of the injured, the ministry has also launched initiatives such as the Golden Hour Scheme. However, in many instances, people themselves become the cause of these accidents. A similar situation has emerged from Palwal district in the National Capital Region (NCR), where as many as 26 road accidents were reported within a single month. Notably, 22 of these accidents occurred along the same stretch of road, and investigations have revealed the underlying causes behind them.

In September 2025 alone, Palwal witnessed a total of 26 road accidents, resulting in several fatalities and numerous injuries. Of particular concern is that 22 of these incidents took place along the Gadpuri–Hodal section of the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI). Most alarmingly, nine people lost their lives at the Mundkatti Point in just one month. Organizations associated with road safety conducted investigations into these incidents, uncovering multiple contributing factors. The findings highlighted poor road maintenance, illegal road cuts, vehicles driving on the wrong side, and defective road design at certain locations as the primary causes. Additionally, roadside petrol pumps and eateries were found to be exacerbating the situation.

Experts have recommended improvements in road construction standards, installation of adequate signage, barriers, and proper lighting systems. They also observed that road construction agencies often attempt to evade responsibility. If the NHAI concessionaire fails to fulfill its duties, volunteers have been urged to conduct independent road safety audits.

These organizations have demanded immediate repair and redesign of the affected roads to prevent further accidents. They have also appealed to local authorities and NHAI to take swift action to reduce such mishaps, thereby strengthening the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to enhance road safety nationwide.
