Petition to remove camera from traffic light, High Court said this and imposed penalty
New Delhi. The Delhi High Court dismissed a PIL requesting the removal of a camera installed at a red light to prevent traffic violations. The court imposed a penalty on the petitioner, saying that doing so would have far-reaching consequences and would lead to chaos. A bench of Chief Justice DN Patel and Justice Jasmeet Singh, while refusing to consider the petition, also imposed a fine of Rs 2500 on the petitioner. The petition also requested a moratorium on challans issued for violation of rules at traffic lights. The court said that the camera is used for various purposes and cannot be prevented from being installed as it will have far-reaching consequences. Dismissing the petition, the court said that this would lead to chaos. The student of Law’s last year had argued in the petition that the ambulance is stuck due to the installation of the camera on the red light and not moving the vehicle standing in front of the ambulance and wasting precious time of the patient while waiting for the green light. The petition argued that if the cameras were not removed from the traffic lights, it would cause irreparable loss of life and it was a violation of the right to health under Article 21 of the Constitution.
