As October nears its end and the monsoon season officially bids farewell to India, meteorologists have warned that several parts of the country may once again experience intense rainfall and thunderstorms. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that 12 states are likely to witness heavy showers accompanied by lightning strikes in the coming days.
According to IMD forecasts, a cyclonic system is gaining strength over the Bay of Bengal, which could impact regions ranging from coastal areas to the country’s interior states. Due to this developing system, more than a dozen states are expected to receive heavy rainfall and strong winds.
The IMD has issued a cyclone alert for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, predicting that the system will become more active starting today (October 21). The effects of this cyclone are expected to be felt across southern peninsular India, eastern, northeastern, central, western, and even northern regions of the country.
The states likely to be affected include Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Odisha, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand, and Himachal Pradesh. Following the alert, local authorities have begun evacuating ports and coastal areas as a precautionary measure.
