New Delhi: Following the proposed delimitation exercise in the country, the number of Lok Sabha seats is expected to rise from 543 to 816. Out of these, 273 seats will be reserved for women. In addition to the Lok Sabha, the number of assembly constituencies is also set to increase.
After the changes are implemented, Uttar Pradesh could have as many as 120 Members of Parliament, while Delhi may have more than 10 MPs. The number of legislators in the Union Territory is also likely to exceed 100.
At present, Delhi has 7 Lok Sabha seats and 70 Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs). With the anticipated 50% increase in seats after delimitation, the total number of MPs in Delhi could rise to 11, while the number of MLAs may reach approximately 105.
