Potatoes, Raw Vegetables and Cold Salads May Aggravate Vata

Lifestyle

New Delhi: Every individual has a unique physical constitution and temperament, which in Ayurveda is broadly categorized into three primary doshas—Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. Among these, maintaining a balanced Vata is considered especially important for overall well-being.

According to experts, the most effective way to keep Vata in balance is by adopting an appropriate diet. Individuals with a Vata-dominant constitution are generally advised to avoid excessively cold, dry, or overly oily and spicy foods. Items such as potatoes, raw vegetables, and cold salads are believed to increase Vata levels in the body.

Instead, it is recommended to prioritize warm, mildly heavy, and nourishing foods. Including staples like rice, wheat, and lentils such as moong and urad in the diet can be beneficial. Among vegetables, options like carrots, bottle gourd, pumpkin, asparagus, apple gourd (tinda), and okra are considered helpful in maintaining Vata balance.
