New Delhi: A significant drop in blood sugar levels can be dangerous, according to health experts. They explain that when the level of glucose in the body falls below 70 mg/dL, the condition is referred to as low blood sugar, or hypoglycemia. If the level drops further to around 40–50 mg/dL, the situation can become serious and may require immediate medical attention.
Glucose is the primary source of energy for the body, particularly for the brain. Therefore, a deficiency can directly affect both mental and physical functions. Experts note that the brain requires a continuous supply of glucose to function properly. When blood sugar levels fall, the brain does not receive sufficient energy, which can impair cognitive abilities such as thinking and understanding.
During such episodes, a person may experience symptoms such as dizziness, confusion, or a feeling of weakness.
