Ranchi: Following the municipal elections held on February 23 through ballot papers across 48 urban local bodies in Jharkhand, the counting of votes commenced on Friday. For the elections conducted in nine municipal corporations, 19 municipal councils, and 20 नगर पंचायत (municipal councils of smaller towns), a total of 25 counting centers have been established statewide.
The fate of 562 candidates contesting for the positions of Mayor and Chairperson, along with 5,562 candidates vying for the posts of Ward Councillor and Panchayat Member, will be decided through this counting process. According to data released by the State Election Commission, an overall voter turnout of 63.05 percent was recorded across the 48 urban local bodies.
Vote counting at all designated centers began at 8:00 a.m. and is scheduled to continue until 8:00 p.m.
