Pyeongtaek: A serious and rare aerial confrontation occurred this week between fighter aircraft from the world’s two leading powers—the United States and China—over international waters near the Korean Peninsula. According to strategic analysts, such a face-to-face encounter between the military aircraft of both nations in this region ranks among the most sensitive developments in recent years.
Reports indicate that approximately ten U.S. fighter jets took off from the Pyeongtaek Air Base for a planned military exercise over international waters off South Korea’s western coast. Although the American aircraft did not technically breach the boundaries of China’s Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ), Beijing responded swiftly as the jets approached the sensitive area, dispatching its own fighter aircraft to monitor and trail them.
