According to official data, out of the state’s 35 districts, 10 have recorded an increase in the number of voters.

New Delhi: Ahead of the Assam Legislative Assembly elections, the Election Commission has removed the names of 243,485 individuals from the state’s voter list. Compared to the draft electoral roll, the final roll reflects a decrease of 0.97 percent in the total number of registered voters. Following the publication of the final voter list, an increase in the number of voters has been observed in Muslim-majority areas of Assam, while a decline has been recorded in regions predominantly inhabited by Scheduled Tribes. In this context, questions are being raised as to whether the issue of demographic changes could intensify political debate in the state.
