Epicenter Located in the Capital; Tremors Also Felt in Sonipat
New Delhi: An earthquake jolted the Delhi–NCR region on Monday morning, with tremors felt at 8:44 a.m. Fortunately, the intensity of the quake was relatively low, and no damage has been reported. However, even mild seismic activity tends to cause anxiety in the seismically sensitive Delhi–NCR region.
The earthquake measured between 2.8 and 4.0 on the Richter scale. Earlier, a separate earthquake of magnitude 4.0 had also been reported in Tibet.
In Haryana’s Sonipat district, strong tremors were felt at 8:44 a.m. Residents reported that the shaking was intense enough to cause walls, windows, and beds to vibrate, triggering panic. Many people rushed out of their homes in fear.
The National Center for Seismology (NCS) confirmed that tremors were also experienced in Delhi.
