Rajkot: Veteran Indian cricketer Virat Kohli achieved a major milestone during the second One Day International against New Zealand in Rajkot. As soon as he scored four runs in the match, Kohli etched his name into the record books. With this, he became the highest run-scoring Indian batsman against New Zealand in ODI cricket.

Previously, this record was held by legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar, who had scored 1,750 runs in 42 ODI matches against the Kiwi team. Kohli surpassed this mark by reaching 1,751 runs in just 34 ODIs as soon as he scored his first run in the Rajkot ODI. In the first ODI of the series, Kohli needed 93 runs to equal Tendulkar’s record, which he achieved by scoring exactly 93 runs. After that match, both Kohli and Tendulkar were tied at 1,750 runs each against New Zealand and jointly held the top position. However, Kohli moved ahead of Tendulkar in the very first run he scored in Rajkot.

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli has once again climbed to the number one position in the ICC ODI batting rankings. He has scored five consecutive half-centuries in this format. Rohit Sharma, on the other hand, has slipped to third place. Kohli has returned to the top of the rankings after a gap of four years. His knock of 93 runs in the first match of the series against New Zealand had already helped him move up to second place in the rankings.
