New Delhi: In a significant move to enhance the combat capabilities of the Indian Air Force (IAF), India and France have come very close to concluding a historic defence agreement. To address the persistent shortage of fighter aircraft in the Air Force fleet, there is a strong likelihood that additional Rafale jets will be ordered. Discussions surrounding this development are expected to gain further momentum during the upcoming visit of French President Emmanuel Macron to India next month.
The Indian Air Force has already submitted a detailed proposal to the government for the acquisition of a large number of advanced jet fighters under a government-to-government (G2G) framework. Under this mega project, the Air Force urgently requires at least 114 modern fighter aircraft to maintain and strengthen its strategic edge.
