Federal anti-narcotics agency presents its 2025 account
New Delhi: The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) reported that during 2025, a total of 37 Interpol notices were issued against alleged drug traffickers, and approximately 133,000 kilograms of narcotics valued at around ₹2,000 crore were seized. Presenting an overview of its year-long operations, the federal anti-narcotics agency stated that more than 77,000 kilograms of drugs were destroyed during this period. The market value of the destroyed contraband was estimated at ₹3,889 crore.
The NCB further stated that in 2025, 265 drug offenders were convicted across 131 cases. Of these, 39 accused were sentenced to the maximum term of 20 years, while 210 received sentences of 10 years or more (but less than 20 years). The agency claimed that its conviction rate in narcotics cases adjudicated by courts stood at 67 percent, reflecting a marginal increase compared to the 60.8 percent recorded in 2024.
According to the statement, the agency has made “notable” progress in the area of international cooperation, particularly in identifying absconding accused persons and facilitating their extradition. During the past year, the NCB obtained a total of 14 Interpol Red Notices (for locating and provisionally arresting fugitives), 22 Interpol Blue Notices (to gather additional information related to a person’s identity and whereabouts), and one Interpol Silver Notice (for identifying criminal assets). In 2025, five absconding accused were deported from countries including the United Arab Emirates, Sri Lanka, and Malaysia.
