Washington: U.S. President Donald Trump has taken a firm stance on the current situation in Venezuela, making it clear that the United States will not exert pressure to rush the country into holding elections. In a special interview, Trump stated that Venezuela is currently experiencing a period of systemic breakdown and instability, and therefore, it is essential to rebuild the nation’s institutional framework and restore stability before any elections can take place.
Commenting on the circumstances that emerged following the arrest of Nicolás Maduro, the President said that conducting elections within the next 30 days is not feasible, as the prevailing conditions on the ground are not conducive to a fair and safe voting process. He emphasized that democracy holds no real meaning unless people feel secure and are genuinely able to participate in the electoral process.
