The Supreme Court has delivered its verdict in the matter concerning the suspension of sentence granted to former BJP Legislator and Unnao rape case convict Kuldeep Singh Sengar. The apex court has stayed the High Court’s order that had suspended Sengar’s sentence and directed his release on bail.
The relief granted to Sengar had triggered widespread public outrage across the country. Following the High Court’s decision, the victim’s family had staged protests in Delhi demanding justice. The Supreme Court’s intervention has now dealt a significant blow to Kuldeep Sengar.
Chief Justice of India Suryakant has put a stay on the High Court’s order. With this decision, there is renewed hope that the Unnao case victim will receive justice from the Supreme Court.
