Supreme Court Petition Demands Intensive Voter Roll Scrutiny in Assam Over ECI’s Special Revision Order

New Delhi: A petition filed in the Supreme Court on Monday challenges the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) November 17 order mandating only a Special Revision of Assam’s electoral rolls, seeking instead a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) to address alleged illegal immigrants on the lists.

Gauhati High Court Bar Association former president Mrinal Kumar Choudhury submitted the plea, arguing the ECI’s decision is arbitrary and discriminatory, as SIR has been ordered nationwide in states including Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Goa, Gujarat, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, West Bengal, and Union Territories like Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep, and Puducherry.
