Anchorage, Alaska: A moderate earthquake measuring 6.0 on the Richter scale struck the Anchorage metropolitan region on Thursday morning at approximately 8:11 a.m. local time, according to the U.S.
Geological Survey (USGS).The epicenter was located near Susitna, about 67 miles northwest of Anchorage, with a quake depth of 69 kilometers.
Despite the tremors, municipal inspections confirmed no significant damage to key public infrastructure, and the U.S. Tsunami Warning System ruled out any tsunami threat.Residents humorously dubbed the holiday “Shakesgiving” as Alaska experiences frequent seismic activity, being the most earthquake-prone state in the U.S. This recent quake is the strongest in south-central Alaska since 2021, underscoring ongoing geological volatility in the region.
