Trump has been facing constant criticism in his country since imposing tariffs on India. Former U.S. National Security Advisor John Bolton criticized Trump over his tariff approach and the state of India–U.S. relations. However, this is not the first time John Bolton has accused Trump, he has criticized Trump many times before this as well. Bolton said that President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi had good personal relations, but now “they are over.” John Bolton further said that India is moving away from America due to Trump’s policies. Trump always views international relations from the point of view of his personal equation. He also warned that even a deep relationship with Trump will not save world leaders from his “worst” decisions.
‘Trump pushed India-US relations back decades’
On his X account, Bolton argued that U.S.–India relations have regressed by many years because of the White House. He added that Prime Minister Modi has now drawn closer to Russia and China. In an interview, when Bolton was asked whether PM Modi’s meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping at the SCO summit indicates a change in the global order? Responding to this question, Bolton said, ‘I think 100% credit for this goes to Donald Trump. Because the way he has treated India for the last several months, decades of efforts to distance India from Russia have been left behind.’ This warning from Bolton indicates that personal friendship alone is not enough for world leaders. Policy changes and geopolitical priorities play a much more important role.
NSA John Bolton’s big claim
Bolton has previously said that the tariff imposed by the Trump administration on India’s purchase of Russian oil is an unforced error. Trump is going to visit Britain from 17 to 19 September, and in the meantime this comment has come to light. There were already many questions and discussions going on about his foreign policy. And now the deteriorating relations with India have further intensified this debate.
