A shocking double murder rocked Delhi’s Lajpat Nagar on Wednesday after a domestic help allegedly killed his employer and her 14-year-old son in a brutal act of revenge. The accused, 24-year-old Mukesh from Bihar’s Hajipur, was arrested while trying to escape on a train.
Police revealed that Mukesh had worked with the family for nearly four years, helping out both at home and at their garment shop in Lajpat Nagar. On the day of the incident, an argument reportedly broke out after the woman, Ruchika (42), scolded him — a moment investigators believe triggered the violent attack.
The gruesome discovery was made after Ruchika’s husband, Kuldeep Sewani, called the police, concerned that his wife and son weren’t answering calls. Bloodstains on the staircase led police to break open the door. Inside, they found Ruchika’s body in the bedroom with her throat slit, while her son’s body was found in the bathroom. Both had been attacked with a sharp weapon.
After the brutal double murder, Mukesh cunningly locked the house from the outside and slipped away with his belongings, hoping to vanish without a trace. But his escape plan crumbled fast — investigators used sharp technical surveillance and alerted railway stations across states. Eventually, his run came to an end when UP Railway Police caught him red-handed at Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Junction as he tried to flee back to Bihar.
“He will be brought back to Delhi for further questioning,” a senior officer said, adding that CCTV footage is being reviewed to determine if any valuables were also stolen.
The killings have left the neighbourhood stunned, raising serious concerns about household safety and trust.
