Google got a big relief! The court’s ruling means Google can retain ownership of Chrome.
Google has got a big relief from the US court. In the US court, Justice Amit Mehta has given a verdict in the ongoing case between the US Department of Justice and Google. Google will no longer be forced to sell the Chrome web browser. In fact, in the year 2023, the US court accused Google of breaking anti-competition laws. After this, the Department of Justice (DOJ) recommended taking strict action against Google. Among these proposals was a demand that Google be required to spin off its Chrome browser. The court, however, granted the company partial relief by putting that requirement on hold for now. That Google will not have to sell the Chrome browser to anyone else. But along with the relief, the court has also put forward a big condition in its decision. Google will now have to share its search data with competitors. Benefit or loss to Google? Following Tuesday’s court ruling, Google’s stock rose by nearly 7.8%. The main reason for this surge was that the company would not have to sell its two major products – Chrome and Android – to anyone. But Google is not happy about sharing search data with others. For now, the threat of Google selling its popular product has been averted. But Google has not got complete relief in many other cases. Many cases are still going on, on which the verdict is yet to come. Google has also been accused of trying to establish a monopoly in the field of online advertising technology (Ad Tech). The hearing of this case is going to be held in September. Google expressed concern Google issued a post after this decision of the court and said that “Now the court has decided how we will distribute Google services and we will have to share our search data with competitors. But we are concerned that these conditions will affect our users and their privacy.” At the same time, the US Justice Department said on the court’s decision that “this decision was necessary to open up the market for general search services which has been stagnant for the last decade. Along with this, the US Justice Department also said that now it will also be ensured that Google does not adopt anti-competitive methods in the search market for its GenAI products.
