New Delhi : The monsoon season in India is now on its way out, yet several states continue to face heavy rainfall and devastating floods. While the withdrawal of the monsoon began in Rajasthan on September 14, three days earlier than usual, flood-like conditions persist in Uttar Pradesh and Telangana.
In Mumbai, rainfall that began overnight caused severe waterlogging across several roads by Monday morning. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the southwest monsoon started retreating from western Rajasthan on September 14, ahead of its normal schedule of September 17. Typically, the monsoon completes its withdrawal from the entire country by October 15.
The weather office had issued a red alert for Mumbai for the following three hours, forecasting heavy rain accompanied by winds reaching speeds of up to 40 km per hour. Due to the downpour on Sunday night, local trains on the Central and Harbour lines of Central Railway were delayed by about 10 minutes on Monday morning. Several roads in Navi Mumbai were also submerged under rainwater.
