Aligarh. The deaths of current and former teachers have raised the concern of the university administration after Covid was infected at Aligarh Muslim University. University Vice Chancellor Tariq Mansoor has written a letter to the Indian Council of Medical Research for an immediate examination of the Covid samples collected at the university. All these samples have been collected by ICMR-certified labs built at AMU.
VC Mansoor has written a letter to the DG of ICMR asking him to conduct a genome study of the Covid samples assembled at the university as soon as possible, to find out if a new mutant of Covid has evolved at the university. In Aligarh, many employees and 16 faculty members (present and retired) have died from Corona in the past. All these people lived on the campus of the university. According to the university, all samples have been sent to the CSIR-Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology in Delhi for examination. It is being suspected that the increase in the number of deaths is due to some new version of the virus. However, the ICMR or the government has not yet responded to this.
According to the report, within 20 days, 16 working and 10 retired faculty members have died from Corona. Vice Chancellor Tariq Mansoor’s elder brother has also died due to Corona’s grip. Prof. Khalid bin Yusuf (56), a famous Sanskrit scholar and former chairman of the Sanskrit Department, passed away on Wednesday. He was the first Muslim scholar to earn a doctorate in the Rigveda.
