According to Indian time, the eclipse will start on 7 September 2025 at 9:58 pm, which will end at midnight on 8 September at 1:26 am. Talking about the most important and peak timing of the lunar eclipse, it will start on 7 September 2025 at 11:00 pm, and the full lunar eclipse will be visible from 11:59 pm to 1:22 am. This eclipse will last till 2:26 am.Overall, the eclipse will span around 4 hours 28 minutes, including a totality period of about 1 hour 23 minutes. During this time the color of the moon will turn red, which we call “Blood Moon”.

Timing of Sutak period of lunar eclipse

The Sutak period of the lunar eclipse on 7 September 2025 will start 9 hours before i.e. on 7 September at 12:57 pm. According to religious beliefs, in Sanatan Dharma, the time of eclipse, whether it is a solar eclipse or a lunar eclipse, is considered impure period, which is also called ‘Sutak period’. Sutak begins a few hours ahead of the eclipse and remains in effect throughout its duration. This period is filled with negative energy and inauspicious effects, so it is advised to avoid certain tasks in this. Let us tell you that eating, sleeping and worshiping are considered forbidden during the Sutak period. Apart from this, considering this period impure, the doors of temples are also closed and worship is forbidden. However, chanting the mantra of God during the eclipse proves to be very beneficial.

This lunar eclipse is special

According to astrology, the lunar eclipse visible on September 7 is considered very special. Because from this day the 15-day Pitru Paksha i.e. Shradh Paksha is also going to start. Therefore, if you perform Shradh or Pinddaan of ancestors on this day, then complete all the rituals before the Sutak period of lunar eclipse begins. As Pitru Paksha is starting from this day, so on this day, remember your ancestors and donate to the poor.
